How To - Slow Down Audio Files

Many students find it difficult to play with songs they're learning because they're too fast.  Here's two free and easy way to slow down the song while you're learning how to play it.

Using Windows Media Player (PC)

  • Make sure the file you want to play is on your hard drive
  • Open the file in windows media player
  • If you have the classic menu enabled, got to "view" - "enhancements" - "play speed settings"
  • If you have the menu hidden, you'll need to right click the top border to access the menu

  • Use the speed slider that appears at the bottom to adjust the tempo

Using Quicktime (Mac)

  • Make sure the file you want to play is on your hard drive
  • Open the file in quicktime
  • Click on the "window" menu and scroll to "show a/v controls"

  • Use the speed slider at the bottom to adjust the tempo, you can also adjust pitch using the appropriate slider
